CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
It's the summer tradition that's 28 years strong.
The World's Largest Block Party begins today at Old St. Pat's on the corner of Madison and Des Plaines with the headliners Lifehouse and Ben Folds Five.
The Party has gained a reputation for singles who meet and later get married.
"It's been a wonderful run for the Church and for all the people who have met here only to go on and get married and have children," Fr. Tom Hurley said. He's the pastor of Old St. Pat's.
"Once upon a time our church was in danger of closing and this party has helped us come back from the brink," Hurley said. "It has allowed us to perform the ministry of our Faith."
Hurley and FOX Chicago reporter Patrick Elwood go back many, many years. In fact Fr. Tom married Patrick and his wife Katie and baptized all four of their children.
As in year's past, Patrick always asked Fr. Tom if he could perform the act of Reconciliation and he always responds jokingly, "we don't have enough time for that in this short TV segment."
The block party runs Friday, June 29 – Saturday, June 30 from 5:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Pre-sold tickets are $40 each, $45 at the door.
