CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Jason Campbell  #2 Quarterback

DOB: December 31, 1981

6'5", 230lbs.

8th season / Auburn

Bio- In seven seasons with time spent between Washington and Oakland, Campbell has completed over 60 percent of his attempts for a total nearing 14,500. Since 2008, only five other QB's hold a lower interception percentage than Campbell's 2.3 percent. Campbell missed the final ten games of the season because of a collarbone injury. Earned Most Valuable Player award for Sugar Bowl and SEC Championship Game. A key factor of the Bears absence in the playoffs last season was the lack of talent from backup quarterback Caleb Hanie after Jay Cutler went down. The Bears hope Campbell can fill the role if needed.

Lou CanellisLou's CallMaybe the most important pickup for the Bears in the off-season. Lovie Smith loved Campbell when he was at Auburn and was prepared to pick him in the 2005 draft until Washington selected him in the first round. The Bears settled for Kyle Orton in the fourth round. Lovie is Campbell's fifth different head coach and Tice is his sixth different offensive coordinator in his NFL career plus he had four different offensive coordinators in four years of college football. This guy needs stability. Campbell has a big arm, is athletic, can run and he's the son of a coach so he has a real good understanding of his place on this football team.  This is important because he's the perfect backup for Cutler. This year, if the Bears lose Cutler to injury, the season won't get flushed away.

Tom WaddleTom's TakeHere's hoping Jason never takes a snap this season. That would mean Jay stays healthy the entire year.  If called upon, the Bears should feel confident that Campbell is capable of running the offense efficiently. He's an enormous upgrade from Caleb Hanie.

Dionne MillerDionne's ViewThe Bears needed a solid back up QB. This is not a secret. In Campbell, they get that guy who has starter experience and with the right company around him, can make a difference. I hope he never sees the field after Week 4 of the preseason. Sorry, Jason.
