CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Chicago cab drivers say the city's new rules are forcing them out of work.

The cabbies were at a city council committee hearing Tuesday.

They say they need a fare increase to offset the higher cost of owning a cab and higher gas prices.

The city Department of Consumer Protection says the new taxi rules are designed to make Chicago cabs cleaner and safer. They say it's premature to ask riders to pay more to ride in a cab.
