Bio - In his rookie season with the Bears, Paea had 18 tackles (7 solos) 2 sacks, and 2 TFLs in his eleven appearances. He was the first Bears player since 1970 to record a safety in his NFL debut (a sack of Vikings QB Donovan McNabb on 10/16/11). Paea was all-PAC first team during his junior and senior years at Oregon State and set a school record for forced fumbles (9) while starting 37 of 38 games played.
Lou's Call – It's time for the Bears 2nd round pick to step up. Jerry Angelo traded up in the draft to nab Paea and so far, he's been a bit of a disappointment. He wasn't a big sack guy in college at Oregon St but he was terrific vs. the run. This guy did 49 bench reps of 225 lbs, the most by any player in a dozen years at the combine. Now, it's crucial he plays that "strong," or he won't be around much longer.
Tom's Take – Paea was bothered by injuries early in his rookie season but came along late last year. Very strong, Paea is good at the point of attack but needs to work on his technique. He has the potential to be full time starter and live up to his 2nd round draft status. Tackle may be a weakness on defense unless Paea continues to develop.
Dionne's View – Proved he can play in the league, just needs to be more consistent when called upon. A year of experience should help Paea be a key part of D-line depth.
