HENRY MELTON #69 Defensive Lineman

DOB: 10/11/86

6'3", 295

4th / Texas

Bio - Melton started on the Bears defensive line during his third season, gathering seven sacks (which tied for third in NFL among defensive tackles and first in the NFC) in what would be an outstanding season. His 42 sack yards were tied for second of NFL defensive tackles, and Melton also added 16 tackles and 4 tackles for loss. Over 31 career games (15 starts) he has 9.5 sacks, 4 tackles for loss, 33 tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. After spending 2009 on the injured reserve, Melton played in all 16 games of 2010 as a reserve defensive lineman and earned 17 tackles (9 solo) and 2.5 sacks.

Lou CanellisLou's Call – Melton could become a rich man if he plays as well or better than he did in 2011. Melton's a free agent after the 2011 season. Last season was his first as a starter and he made an impact racking up 7 sacks which was 3rd best amongst tackles in the NFL. Melton though needs to improve against the run and I believe he will with a full season as a starter under his belt. Lovie Smith absolutely loves Melton's athletic ability so don't be surprised if you see him returning kicks as well, yes, at 6-3, 295 lbs.

Tom WaddleTom's Take – Melton is as athletic as any defensive tackle in the league and should continue to make strides as a pass rusher. He will get over powered at times and needs to be very disciplined with his responsibilities. Opposing guards and centers struggle with how agile he is.

Dionne MillerDionne's View – One of the most important members of the Defense. If he keeps the pressure on the pass rush, teams will have to account for him and maybe Peppers avoids the double team. Win- Win. He's in a contract year, so I expect he performs accordingly.
