CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Firefighters extinguished an extra-alarm blaze in the South Chicago neighborhood early Monday.
The fire, in the 8400 block of South Commercial Avenue, is in a 2 1/2 frame "mixed occupancy structure," according to Fire Media Affairs, meaning the building is being used as both commercial and residential space.
The fire was elevated to a second alarm shortly after firefighters arrived on the scene.
As of about 3:30 a.m., Fire Media Affairs reported that firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading to a large industrial building one side and a residential building on the other.
The fire was extinguished about 4:10 a.m., Fire Media Affairs said. No injuries were reported as emergency crews searched the burned out structure.
Unconfirmed dispatch reports indicate the fire started before 2:05 a.m., though Fire Media Affairs did not immediately confirm the time.
