CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
It's Tuesday but with a Thursday night game its actually Friday in Bears land. Though today was different. Its the last practice of the pre-season. And with the starters not expected to be more than sideline spectators, Coach Smith made the final practice 2 hours of fun. Gorgeous day so who cares.
Biggest news of the day was the last thing Lovie Smith said "He expects to see number 54 out on the field next week in practice and playing against the Colts". Well that is great news. Means Brian Urlacher may be running. He may be even doing some drills on the surgically knee. Or maybe he's done some game speed stuff. Isn't it fun to speculate? Just hearing that the next time the team practices on Monday, Urlacher is expected to be on the field is reason to be optimistic about his full participation in the 2012.
Lovie did not share the plans for playing time against the Browns, other than to say there is a plan. And there are a couple tight position battles on the depth chart. So Coach Smith is looking for players to finish strong. Their NFL dream depends on it.
In light of that, I talked to Lorenzo Booker today. The 105 yard return man. He said that run against the Redskins helped his conditioning a
lot- he was super tired. But he was excited that the coaching staff was able to see what he is capable of in one play. He's in such a tight battle with Armando Allen for the third RB spot, that 'splash play' as Lovie called it- really set him a-part. Talk about a great job interview. But its still a battle to be watched on Thursday- how the team uses both of them on offense and special teams. Booker did admit he's terrified before every practice and game. Doesn't matter whether its an NFC title game or preseason game #4 he's scared. But he's been to
6 NFL training Camps and he knows what he has to do to show them he belongs.
Adam Podlesh chatted with us today too and said re-hab of his injured hip flexor is going well. Really well. He said there is no real timetable for return, but that he hopes to be on the field soon. Didn't rule out being ready for week 1, but didn't confirm anything either, so stand by.
The next time the Bears practice, the pre-season will be over- how can we not be excited about that. Please can the games count for real ...please.
