CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
While he's been a Democratic congressman from Chicago's West Side for 20 years, Luis Gutierrez has never before visited the other party's nominating convention.
FOX Chicago's Mike Flannery talked with Gutierrez, who posed this question himself:
"What is Luis Gutierrez, a Chicago Democrat doing at the Republican convention?"
"Good question," Flannery asked.
"Relaying the Democratic message," Gutierrez said.
Reflecting that aggressiveness, sources tell FOX Chicago News that the battle for U.S. House seats in Illinois being waged by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, will be bolstered by at least $6 million for TV ads; about half in the Chicago area, 11 field offices and more than 30 full-time field staffers.
Former Republican U.S. House Speaker Denny Hastert said: "that's a lot of money. That's more money than we ever face ever. But you know they're desperate to keep tax and spend type of philosophies in place."
Republican Congresswoman Judy Biggert said: "they sure must want it bad but I guess remap didn't work, gerrymandering didn't work; now they want to buy it."
Gutierrez agreed that the Democrats want it: "never before have I seen this kind of money come from the Democratic congressional campaign committee."
