Costs rise to fix Grant Park after Lollapalooza

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Promoters of the Lollapalooza music festival have increased the amount of money they say is needed to restore Grant Park after this year's event.

Promoters and the Chicago Park District said Thursday it will cost about $350,000. Earlier this month they said it would cost about $150,000 for landscaping work in the park, which has hosted the festival for the last eight years. Charlie Jones of promoter C3 Presents says costs to repair sod in one area went up due to drainage issues.

Truckloads of sod arrived Thursday as crews have started repairing the damage to Grant Park.

Promoters say about 300,000 people attended the three-day festival earlier this month. Rains on the second day of the festival left patches of Grant Park muddied, but not as bad as last year when promoters spent more than $1 million to restore areas of Grant Park.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
