Labor Day grilling: Whittingham Meats and Marie's Cafe

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Whittingham Meats has been a family run business since 1947. Rick Whittingham runs the place today.

It's been 15 years since Rick took over, and he's expanded the operations at the current location in Alsip.

It takes dozens of employees and thousands and thousands of square feet to get the job done. They display and sell the goods in the front, and it's all prepared in the back.

Try to imagine working inside your refrigerator - and at times your freezer – all day long.

Whatever you're looking for to put on your table, you'll find it here. Cold cuts, fish and even and even whole pigs are offered.

Chicago 250 is a collective effort by Whittinghams and Illinois farmers to raise healthier steers.

So if you're ever around 127th and Pulaski, stop and say hello. Whether that's tomorrow, next week or next year, odds are Rick will be there to greet you at the door.
