Local stroke survivor talks amazing recovery and determination

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Chicago White Sox paid special tribute to a number of local stroke survivors this weekend, as part of a campaign to raise awareness about the nation's third leading cause of death.

Among those honored on the field at The Cell was Kirk Disrude.

He suffered a stroke last year at the young age of 38, and has fought back. He recovered well enough to train for the Chicago Marathon next month.

He's also now dedicated to educating others about stroke.

Disrude joined Dr. Mona Khanna on Good Day Chicago to give some insight into strokes, what recovery was like, warning signs that a stroke is taking place, the importance of quick treatment and his determination to complete the marathon.
