WHEATON, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A 60-year-old west suburban track and field trainer is free on bond Wednesday after being charged with having sexual contact with a teenage boy he'd been training, allegations the lead prosecutor calls "sickening."

Robert Theodore of Woodridge was ordered held on $250,000 bond by Judge Elizabeth Sexton at a hearing Wednesday, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's office. He later posted the required $25,000 bail and was released.

However, Theodore was ordered to submit to GPS monitoring and have no contact with the victim or anyone under the age of 18, a release from the state's attorney's office said. He is charged with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, punishable by up to seven years in prison.

A track/triathlon trainer at Lifetime Fitness in Warrenville, prosecutors allege that when the victim was 16, Theodore began having inappropriate contact. Instances of abuse allegedly occurred at Theodore's home, the victim's home and a local gym where they trained. Prosecutors also said Theodore bought expensive gifts for the boy, including a specialized bicycle, clothing and an iPod Touch.

"The allegations against Mr. Theodore are sickening," State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. "The relationship between an athlete and their trainer is built on trust and a desire to bring out the best in the athlete.

"It is alleged that through his actions, Mr. Theodore cared nothing about his young victim and destroyed the trust his victim had placed in him to satisfy his own despicable desires. I would like to thank this young man for having the courage to come forward."

Theodore's next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 15 before Judge Blanche Fawell for arraignment.
