CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

More deadly protests and anger have erupted in the Middle East and surrounding countries over the anti-Islamic video.

In Tunisia, angry protesters set fire to trees, smashed windows, and tried to scale walls outside the U.S. Embassy. Police fired real bullets and tear gas into the crowd. State television reported three dead, 28 injured.

Rioters in the capitol of Sudan torched the German Embassy and removed the American flag.

In Cairo, Egypt, riot police used tear gas to clear out groups of demonstrators in Tahrir Square.

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi made an appeal for peace. His actions apparently were prompted by a tense phone call from president Obama.

In Lebanon, just forty miles from the site of Pope Benedict's visit, protestors ransacked and set fire to western fast-food chains.

In all, some three dozen cities, witnessed unrest directed at the West.

"I am confident that the U.S.. Government will do whatever it has to do to protect its embassies," says Rep. Peter King from New York.

The U.S. Department of Defense sent a marine rapid response team to Sudan to protect the embassy there. And in Libya, U.S. drones are hovering over the city of Benghazi where the initial attack happened on Tuesday.
