Miss Illinois to help bring awareness to ovarian cancer

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Chicago skyline will be lit up in teal Friday night, the official color of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

It's a disease that will kill an estimated 15,000 women in the U.S. this year alone.

To help raise awareness, the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition is holding a special celebration and fundraiser tonight at Willis Tower.

The "teal lights" event will feature survivors and their supporters including keynote speaker Miss Illinois, whose own family was touched by the disease.

Miss Illinois, Ashley Hooks, joined Good Day Chicago to share her story.
