Apple Fest, Battle of Chicago, Ricardo Muti concert top your weekend

You know fall is just around the corner when apple fests start popping up, but if you are still hanging on to summer, Time Out Chicago's Marissa Conrad keeps summer alive with her picks for some great outdoor events happening this weekend. The weather is still warm by Chicago standards, so get out there this weekend before it's too late!
Battle of Chicago U.S. Cellular Field. 7pm, gates open 5:30pm. $10; $5 online; free parking. A20-man squads of Chicago Fire Department and Chicago Police Department personnel go head-to-head in this nine-inning baseball match. Proceeds benefit the Chicago Gold Badge Society and the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation. Fire Commissioner Santiago and CPD Superintendent McCarthy are expected to show.
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra with Riccardo Muti concert is bound to pack the Great Lawn. It'll perform German composer Carl Orff's 1937 choral Carmina Burana. Millennium Park, Jay Priztker Pavilion, 205 E Randolph St (312-742-1168, millenniumpark.org). 6:30pm; free.
Lincoln Square Apple Fest 4700 N Lincoln Ave, at Leland Ave (lincolnsquare.org). 8am-5pm. Free. Avoid the doctor today. Pick up candy apples, pies and cider at this pomaceous fruit celebration. More than two dozen vendors sell cider, pies and the fruit by the bushel. Cooking demos, tastings and live music are offered, too.
Round up your own Raj, Rerun and Dwayne cabal. Heck, bring your sharp-tongued younger sister to What's Happening!!Longman & Eagle expresses its gratitude to patrons and the Logan Square community by throwing this outdoor block party. Chef Jared Wentworth created a special menu featuring a pig plate and corn pudding, venison sausage and sauerkraut and wild boar sloppies on a crispy sage-onion brioche. Before the revelry ends, toss back a few cans of Old Style. They should help you muster up enough nerve to attempt pop-locking. Windy City Soul Club deejays.
