ELGIN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

An 18-year-old man faces two felony counts of driving under the influence after he crashed a pickup truck into a sports-utility vehicle early Sunday in northwest suburban Elgin, authorities said.

Four people - including the driver of the pickup - were injured in the accident that happened just before 1 a.m. near Liberty and Hastings streets, the Elgin Fire Department said in a release.

Emergency crew had to use hydraulic extraction equipment to free all four people, the release said, adding that paramedics took the wounded to area hospitals.

The driver - identified as Luis Romo, of the 0 to 100 block of Devonshire Circle in Elgin - remained hospitalized Sunday afternoon at Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin, said Elgin Police Cmdr. Glenn Theriault.

In addition to the felony DUI charges, Romo faces a misdemeanor charge of driving an uninsured vehicle while causing bodily harm, Theriault said. Romo was also cited for driving through a stop sign.

The Hampshire, Huntley, South Elgin and Schaumburg fire departments provided mutual aid during the incident by covering the Elgin stations.
