Ill. Supreme Court to allow cameras in DuPage County courtroom

WHEATON, Ill. (FOX 32 News) -
Cameras and other recording devices could be coming to more Illinois courtrooms soon.
The Illinois Supreme Court is expected to issue an order Monday, allowing live broadcasts of trials in the 18th Circuit Court of DuPage County.
Chief Justice Thomas Kilbride announced the pilot program in April. He said it's important to have the Chicago media market included in the test program.
Kilbride told WDCB Radio that the pilot project is running smoothly so far but that doesn't guarantee statewide implementation.
He said maintaining decorum in the courtroom will always be the top priority and he won't allow enhanced media coverage to jeopardize that.
Since January, more than a dozen county courts have applied for and received the green light for expanded media coverage.
Cook County will most likely be granted permission, sometime before the end of the year.
