STREAMWOOD, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Bond was set on Sunday at $325,000 for a man charged in connection with an armed home invasion Friday afternoon in Streamwood that put two schools and a library on lock down.
Keewon Taylor, 20, of the 0-100 block of Helen Court in Streamwood, was charged with armed robbery, aggravated vehicular hijacking, and home invasion late Saturday evening, a release from Streamwood police said.
He turned himself in to authorities Friday night at the Cook County Courthouse in Maywood, Streamwood police said. Bond was set at $325,000 Sunday at a hearing at the Cook County Courthouse at 26th and California for Taylor.
Police responded Friday afternoon to the 3000 block of Lynwood Court in Streamwood for a report of a home invasion and kidnapping and learned a man with a shotgun ordered the victim to drive to an unidentified location at gunpoint, Streamwood police said.
When the victim attempted to escape, the kidnapper crashed into a sign, police said. The kidnapper ran with the shotgun into a densely wooded area near Lake Street and Park Boulevard in the suburb.
Tefft Middle School, Heritage Elementary School and the Poplar Creek Public Library were put on lock down while police searched the area, police said. Area residents were warned to remain in their homes but Friday night police said the kidnapper had left the area and no longer posed a threat to residents.
