Red Line service resumes after North Side accident - My50 Chicago - Television - WPWR

CTA Red Line trains are back on the move after being shut down in both directions between Belmont and Howard after a train car ended up on two sets of tracks in the North Side Edgewater neighborhood.

A southbound Red Line train experienced problems about 12:48 p.m. while approaching the Granville station, CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said.

She said the agency was not calling the issue a derailment because all wheels remained on the track, though the front and back wheels were on different tracks due to a split switch issue, Hosinski said.

"This is not a derailment," she said. "The train never left the tracks."

However, CTA media alerts and Tweets called the accident a derailment, and firefighters responded to a call of a derailment at 1119 W. Granville, according to Fire Media Affairs. A still and box alarm and EMS Plan 1 were called.

There were no reports of injuries, according to Fire Media, and the emergency response was cancelled by 1:15 p.m.

Power was removed on the elevated tracks in both directions for about 90 minutes and a bus shuttle was established between the Berwyn and Howard stations.

All Red Lines trains were running normally as of 2:30 p.m., though residual delays were being experienced, according to the CTA.

The Yellow Line has also resumed normal service after being temporarily suspended because of the Red Line issues, Hosinski said.
