ComEd questions whether it must comply with Illinois smart grid law

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
ComEd is questioning whether it must comply with the part of last year's landmark "smart grid" law.
The smart grid law allows ComEd to install smart meters in its northern Illinois territory, but it also requires ComEd to improve its reliability record.
ComEd had sold its smart grid program as a way to shorten outages by strengthening its infrastructure.
But now the company said it's gauging whether it can meet the new standards that the law established.
The smart grid program has been postponed until 2015.
