Cook County judge likely to keep job battery despite charge

CHICAGO (Associated Press) -
A Cook County judge is likely to keep her $182,000-a-year job even though she was recently charged with misdemeanor battery and though some legal groups say voters should give her the boot.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports a supervising panel suspended Cynthia Brim earlier this year after she allegedly pushed sheriff's deputies at a courthouse. The 54-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Her case illustrates how rarely voters unseat judges. It hasn't happened in Cook County in 22 years.
The Democrat is 1 of 57 Cook County Circuit Court judges up for retention.
The Chicago Bar Association recommends voters reject her. But the Democratic Party backs her.
Brim declined comment to the Sun-Times. A telephone listing for her was unpublished.
The next hearing in Brim's battery case is Nov. 7.
