CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas said her goal was always to inspire people. She did just that when she won gold at the London Olympics this year.
Douglas is now making sure the inspiration sticks. She came to Chicago Sunday with a specific message for a specific group of people: young girls.
The gold medalist wants them to know that anything is possible. Even though there may be struggles along the way, she promises that sacrifices will always pay off, and they can accomplish anything.
Douglas was the keynote speaker at an event for I-GLOW, which stands for "Inspiring Girls To Lead Our World." The group was founded by a Chicago native who now works for First Lady Michelle Obama.
Gabby and her mother, Natalie Hawkins, will be honored Monday at a congratulatory mother-daughter luncheon from the Barden Gary foundation - Indiana University Northwest in Gary.
Chicago area girls could have the chance to meet Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman on Monday as well.
The two-time gold medalist is going to be at American Girl Place to sign autographs and take pictures with fans from 5-7 p.m.
