CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
In a debate full of memorable moments, Romney's "women full of binder" comment seems to have made the strongest impression.
"I went to a number if women's groups and said can you help us find folks and they sent us whole binders full of, uh, women," Romney said.
There were efforts by both presidential candidates to get votes from women Tuesday.
Mitt Romney meant his "binder" comment to be a simple example of his commitment to having women fairly represented in his administration as Massachusetts governor.
But, the remark has taken on a life of its own. #bindersfullofwomen is now a Twitter hashtag, a Facebook, page, and its own website.
The pages, mainly dominated by Obama supporters, are attracting followers by the thousands and have become a battleground for Democrats and Republicans to fight for the hearts and minds of undecided female voters.
Bindersfullofwomen.com asks people to, "Send Romney's campaign headquarters a binder of facts about women." The website seeks anti-Romney donations and also put some words in the mouth of Rosie the Riveter -- "Not cool Mitt" an image on the site says.
But, Republicans have Photoshop too. A graphic made by the Republican National Committee of an empty binder has the headline "Obama's second-term agenda." The Republican argument is that what women in America need is a better economy and more jobs.
The "binder" quote has sparked a healthy amount of silliness as well. Someone online posted a photo of Hugh Hefner with the caption: "Binders full of women? Oh sure, I've got hundreds of them."
Then, there's a fake photo of an excited Bill Clinton barging into a White House news conference exclaiming "did someone say binders full of women?!"
Most of the online memes and jokes are for a good laugh, but does any of it indicate how women, overall, will actually vote in the election?
