Binders full of women and the economy at town hall debate: Chat - My50 Chicago - Television - WPWR

On Thursday's Chat Room Sun-Times Splash Editor Susanna Negovan and consultant Rochelle Trotter dish on the recent Presidential debate.

Both President Obama and Mitt Romney came out with "gloves on" in this second debate. Many women have voiced strong opinions about their performance. Was it too much? Or just what we needed to see from the candidates?

Susanna loved the fact that they came out guns-a-blazing! Candidates are supposed to show strong support for their position and defend them during a debate. Rochelle disagreed, stating that she thought the candidates were both too aggressive, and the entire interaction kept her on edge, waiting for one of them to throw a punch!

Susanna thinks the whole "Binder Full of Women" faux pas has been blow out of proportion. She believes Romney forgot the last word in that statement, which was "resumes." The way the Democrats are handling this shows that they really have nothing more important to use against Romney. Rochelle agreed that this has been blown out of proportion, but thought it was funny - with so many references on the Internet.

Finally, Rochelle stated that in the final debate she really thinks both candidates need to focus on women's issues which don't lie "below the waist." There are things very important to women which affect them "above the waist" so these guys need to speak to women at the heart and head level. The message and the style of delivery are critically important factors in this last debate.

Susanna agreed, stating that the economic plans for both parties must be made clear in this final debate. We all understand where the candidates stand on issues such as a woman's reproductive rights. Let's hear more about what they plan to do to address the economy.
