I-80 rollover left scaffolding strewn across road, shut down traffic

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A rollover on I-80 involving a scaffolding-laden semi shut down traffic near Ripley on Tuesday.

The 1995 Freightliner semi entered the interstate west bound from the toll road exit ramp at about 11:30 a.m.

The truck's speed was too much for the curve, and the load shifted to the driver's side on the flat bed. The scaffolding came loose and rolled across all of the westbound lanes.

A preliminary investigation by Indiana state police found the driver, Richard Nelson was not injured. The 49-year-old hails from Jordan, Minn.

Nelson was ticketed for "speed too fast to avoid a collision."

The semi was on its way to Shakopee, Minn. from Oregon, Ohio. Truck owner Joel Fries operates business in Prior Lake, Minn.

Traffic is getting by on the right shoulder, according to Indiana police.
