The Talker: George Lucas sells film company to Disney for $4B

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
A beloved movie series, maybe America's most beloved, is undergoing a warp speed change.
Hold onto your light sabers, Star Wars fans. Series creator George Lucas has sold the movie franchise, along with his whole production company to Disney. He'll get a pile of cash and stock as big as the death star: about $4 billion worth.
Here's the biggest news: Disney will make a whole bunch of new Star Wars movies. It turns out, Episode 6: Return of the Jedi is not the end of the saga. Disney will put out Episode 7 in 2015, followed by episodes 8 and 9. After that, it plans to make a new Star Wars film every two or three years. Lucas says he has story treatments for the next three films.
"I'm doing this so that the films will have a longer life and so that more fans and people can enjoy them into the future," Lucas said.
"The main thing is to protect these characters and make sure they still continue to live in the way that you created them…and that the universe of Star Wars continues to grow," LucasFilm President Kathleen Kennedy added.
